Hey! My name is SouLyricist with AFN Beats. I've been producing for over 18 years now.
I am a hip-hop producer, artist, engineer, and educator.
I've been blessed enough to have the opportunity of performing with artists like U-God of Wu Tang Clan, Twisted Insane, KRS-One, Royce Lovett (from NBC's The Voice), and more. Plus I've worked in the studio with legends such as Ric Holly, former drummer of Sly and The Family Stone.
My journey of creating music began at a very young age. I started taking piano lessons at the age of four, and learned the guitar, bass guitar, drums, hand percussion, and was singing with the choir before I graduated high school.
I grew up in the capital city of Tallahassee, Florida with a vibrant music community. During my first two years of college, I frequented open mics and was performing shows in the local music scene as an emcee and with various funk/hip-hop bands.
I started making beats on other people's equipment until I got serious about it after moving to Orlando, FL to study Music at the University of Central Florida.
During this time was when I became a music teacher giving lessons on guitar, bass guitar, and drums. I still teach music lessons to this day.
My biggest music mentor up until then was my mother. She was my first music teacher. I lost my mom in abattle against cancer 11 years ago. For a long time life was a struggle for me, and I focused my attention on working up the corporate ladder to become a store manager.
Years later was when I realized that this wasn't for me. I made up my mind to focus all of my energy on becoming the best producer and advocate for artists that I could be.
So I packed up my Jeep and moved all the way across the country for a fresh start, from Florida to Oregon. It wasn't easy by any means. I was homeless, didn't have a job, etc. However I believed in myself and knew that I would persevere these hardships to obtain the life I wanted to live.
It took me leaving everything behind to open up opportunities I never knew existed. I began teaching the history of hip-hop in after school programs, taking on mentorship roles speaking in high schools and performing workshops for youth. All while keeping up with my artistry and craft.
I understand all the work it takes to be a musician, especially with the ups and downs that life brings. That's why it is my mission to give hard working artists like you a hand up by providing the most valuable information and resources for independent musicians.
I'm looking forward to working with you!
MY JOB IS TO PROVIDE YOU WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED
